How to prepare yam porridge(Asaro)
Yam porridge a.k.a (Asaro) is a dish eaten by the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, On any occasion that is hosted by this tribe, you will find the yam porridge a.k.a ( Asaro) in their food menu, because its red color formulated from a mixture of peppers and nice aroma is irresistible. So without further ado, let's dive right into the ingredients needed to prepare this irresistible dish.
Yam Porridge recipes
1) A tuber of yam
2) 4 Scotch bonnet pepper
3) 3 Red bell pepper
4) 3 paprika pepper
5) 1 large onion
6) 4 chili pepper
7) 4 Tomatoes
8) Meat or chicken broth
Preparation Process:
: Slice your yam in chunks and soak it in water to reduce starch.
Add your tomatoes, onion, chili pepper, paprika pepper, scotch bonnet pepper, and red bell pepper in a blender and blend with little water.
After blending pour into a bowl, then place a pot on the fire and heat moderately then add vegetable oil with palm oil so you don't get too pale or too red-colored yam porridge.
Add your blended pepper mix and stir into the palm oil and vegetable oil mixture, allow to fry for 3 minutes then add your meat/ Chicken broth and stir thoroughly. Let it boil for five minutes, then add your yam chunks. Allow yam chunks to boil until soft, then start mashing chunks with a cooking spoon or a turning stick, mash for 3 minutes then take off the fire. Our yam porridge a.k.a (Asaro) is ready. Now the yam porridge is best eaten and enjoyable with stew/ pepper sauce. So let's get to preparing our yam porridge pepper sauce/ stew.
Yam porridge pepper sauce/ stew recipes:
1) 3 paprika pepper
2) 4 chili pepper
3) 3 Scotch bonnet
4) 2 Bell pepper
5) 1 large onion
6) 2 ginger
7) crayfish powder
8) Chopped onion
9) Boiled/ Fried Assorted meat
Preparation process:
Add paprika pepper, chili pepper, scotch bonnet, bell pepper, onion, and ginger in a blender and blend thoroughly with little water.
Then scoop out this blend into a bowl, place a frying pan on fire and allow to heat up, add vegetable oil and palm oil into the frying pan. then add your chopped onion and crayfish to the oil and stir fry for 1 minute to disperse the crayfish and onion taste into the pepper sauce. Now add your blended pepper mix to oil and stir then add your chicken/ beef cube, and salt to taste.
Allow pepper sauce to fry for 20- 25 minutes then add your boiled/ fried assorted meat into the sauce and allow to fry for 5 - 10 minutes. Take off the fire and our yam porridge a.k.a ( Asaro) Pepper sauce is ready.
